Online escrow is simply holding the buyer's payment by a trusted third
party, IES. Payment is released to the seller when the buyer has inspected
and accepted the seller's merchandise. If the buyer is unhappy with the
merchandise, payment is returned to the buyer after the seller inspects
and accepts the returned merchandise. Online escrow services are provided
by Internet Escrow Services (IES), one of the operating subsidiaries of
Escrow.com. IES is licensed by the California Department of Corporations
(License #963-1867).
Buyers have the opportunity to inspect the merchandise before paying.
Steps
Agreement: Either buyer or seller begins the transaction by providing
terms and information about the merchandise. Both parties must accept
the terms of the agreement for the transaction to proceed.
Payment: The buyer submits payment to IES where it is verified. IES
then secures the payment in their trust account.
Delivery: Escrow.com notifies the seller that the buyer's
payment is securely held in escrow. The seller then delivers the merchandise
to the buyer.
Inspection: The buyer decides to accept or reject the
merchandise within an inspection period agreed to by both parties. If
the buyer accepts the goods, IES releases the funds to the seller.
