Though there is not an actual scientific standard of classification
or characterization of the Colombian emerald, the experience of miners,
producers, businesspeople and engravers can allow a relatively easy identification
of the place where a specific stone comes from.

This a single emerald colored from diferent tonesto represent the natural nuances in color from source to source. Finding a
specific color is difficult, because the production of mines isn´t
ever homogenous, and sometimes a matrix displays various qualities and colors in the gemstones.
Muzo
They present deep herbal green color and a good transparency
due to the scarce presence of gardens and inclusions.
Coscuez and Penas Bancas mines
Very good color and brightness with difused gardens
and inclusions as well. They present a typical yellowish green color.
Chivor
Their green color is generally blueish, a very common characteristic
of these shields. The clarity of some of them is excellent. Others
present inclusions, micro-fractures, and cavities, which are very difficult
to hide.
Gachala
Their chacteristics include clarity or transparency
and brightness, due to the absence of inpurities or fractures
which are easily detectable by the naked eye. Their color is generally
pale green.
